Following a process of consultations, a series of meetings and various ratifications and decisions of the stakeholders and organs of the relevant unions, COFTU was formed in October 2003. On 25th October 2003, the final founding meeting of Labour Unions took place at Care Hotel in Bakuli, Kampala, in which a decision was taken to form a new national trade union centre.
