Br. Baleka joined the Labour movement in 1995 as a shop steward in the Printers Union. In 1998 I was trained by ILO on Occupational Safety and health basics in Kenya and later by International graphical federation Denmark which he has continued to cascade to the members of his union and rest of the COFTU members. He attended a youth leadership course in Tanzania on how to work with youth problems, legal aspects of family, recruitment of youth and women, and the ILO Convention & occupational safety and health.
He has had training in grievance handling, collective bargaining, organizing and recruitment skills, the role of the shop Seward Public relations.
He worked for over 10 years at the Parliament of Uganda as the Political assistant for the workers Member of Parliament Hon. Dr. Sam Lyomoki. This gave him a level of exposure and commitment that he has exhibited to COFTU and COFTU’s mandate to date.
He was awarded a National medal by H.E The President of Uganda on 1st May 2015
Currently, he is a board member and a General Secretary of NUDCAW, whose jurisdiction is organising bus, Taxi and Truck drivers, Boda Boda riders, and cyclists, and all other automotive operators.
