Dr. Sam Lyomoki, who is currently the Secretary General of the Central Organisation of Free Trade Unions (COFTU), is a Medical Doctor and a senior leadership and labour justice executive and consultant with more than 30 years of experience in executive leadership.
Dr. Sam Lyomoki is also a Member of the Board of Directors of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and the Chairperson of the Board Committee, the Staff Administration and Corporate Affairs(SACA), and also serves as Chairperson and member on various Boards of Directors, including Workers Ministries, Potters House Outreach Ministries International (PHOMI), The Lyomoki Leadership and Labour Institute (LLLI), and Hosanna Uganda Limited. He is also a Maternal and Child Health Advisor at the Becky Faith MCH Foundation and a Facilitator at both the Solidarity Glory Institutes and the Executive Leadership Programme of the Institute of National Transformation (INT).
Previously, he served in the Parliament of Uganda as a Member of Parliament for 25 years, where he chaired several Committees of Parliament. Dr. Lyomoki has also worked as a Public Health Specialist and Health Policy Analyst, as a CEO of Hosanna Uganda Limited, as a Medical Director of Kanginima Hospital and as a Medical Officer in various health facilities in Uganda and internationally including Mulago National Referral Hospital, Butabika Hospital (Ministry of Health), Kisekka Foundation Hospital, Kanginima Hospital, Hosanna Hospital and Innsbruck Hospital ( Austria).
He has held other roles in different capacities. He has served as an expert in various Tripartite Technical Panels and Committees of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the international labour movement, and represented the workers locally and internationally in several high-profile engagements like the United Nations General Assembly (UNGASS) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO). He was previously a panelist at the Industrial Court of Uganda, a member of the Labor Advisory Board, and the General Secretary of the Uganda Medical Workers Union. He also served as the Chairperson of the Steering Committee for the Presidential Initiative on Markets and Small Operators.
Sam holds a Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Makerere University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nairobi. He also has a Master of Science in Community Health and a Master of Public Administration and Management. He is also a graduate and an alumnus of the OakSeed Executive Leadership of the Institute of National Transformation (INT), USA; the Sundoulos African Leaders' Training (SALT) and Development Associates International (USA); the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI); and the World Bank Institute, Global Development Learning Network Centre, and Uganda Management Institute. In addition, he has also had various executive trainings and mentorship in Leadership, Corporate governance, Board excellence, accounting, labour markets, social security, financial analysis, auditing, Human Resource Management, and workers' education, among others.
