Wafana Nelson Makwasi is the Treasurer General of the Central Organisation of Free Trade Unions and also the General Secretary of the Uganda Farm & Agro-Based Workers’ Union
He is the Chairman of Public Service International (PSI) Uganda. He is the Chairman of Uganda Farm & Agro-Based Workers’ Union Members Multipurpose Cooperative Society. He served as a Member of the Public Service Consultative and Negotiating Council in the Ministry of Public Service, representing workers in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, and was a Director at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
He is a servant of God who served as a Youth leader, a pastor, and now a Bishop in Rock of Ages Faith Ministries and a preacher of the word of God. He is a happily married man with five children. Born in 1969 in the slopes of Mount Elgon in the former greater Mbale district, currently Sironko district, and an Arabic coffee growing farmer in the Elgon region. Has been in the labour movement for the past 20 years.
Started as a Bursar at Lohana Academy, became an accountant/Administrator in Uganda Medical Workers Union, then a General Secretary of Uganda Farm & Agro Based Workers Union, Deputy Treasurer General for five years, and finally Treasurer General Central Organisation of Free Trade Unions (COFTU). Currently representing COFTU on the steering committee for ENABEL and ILO at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development on the CLEAR supply chain project for Coffee and Cocoa in Elgon, Greater Masaka, Albertine and Rwezori regions.
He has a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) (Management) from Ndejje University,
